Johanne's Biography
Johanne Hémond is originally from Montréal but has been a Victoria resident for over twenty years. She work as a Recreation Therapist with Island Health’s Wellness Monitoring Program and is an artist in her free time. Johanne brings compassion and empathy to her clinical practice, and ongoing support around her clients’ mental health. Johanne also brings the arts into her practice as a way of coping with emotional and physical pain.
Johanne loves to discover new ways of creating. She recently started to preserve her garden flowers to make resin art. She dabbled with encaustic art and has been practicing photography for over 30 years, also developing her own photos in the pre-digital age. She finds inspiration in the environment that surrounds her:
"My artwork is an outward projection of my internal landscapes. It reflects the range of emotional textures that I bring to my world. My work starts with a base that builds into lines and thick layers. Drips, splatters and wiped surfaces are all part of the process.”
